HAMBERG to BERLIN

We drive through wooded areas all in full show of their Autumn colours. The land is very flat, and large prosperous looking farms dot the sides of the roads. This area was part of Eastern Germany (except for the small area of Berlin) before the wall came down and the houses are quite plain and fundamental. We find ourselves a lovely kampinplatz in a wooded area near Rheinsberg. The campground is well kept and the manager very helpful. We didn’t have the right adapter plug for the power, and he kindly lent us the right one. Also each morning he would leave us two lovely fresh brotchen (bread rolls) for our breakfast. On Sunday we went for a drive looking for a supermarket, and came upon a huge pottery fair in the town of Rheinsberg. Stalls filled the market place as well as along the cobbled stone main street. It was very tempting as we saw some unusual items, but we still have to be careful with extra items and the weight in the van, so we left with only the memories. We look for a kampingplatz near Berlin and find one on the internet that looks just perfect. So we set the directions into Gerty GPS and arrive at a small camping area near Potsdam, the gate is closed but we can see a few people inside, so we ring the bell and a gentleman comes over and tells us that it’s a private site, but he would let us stay as his guests. He, like most of the other Germans we have met since arriving have been very friendly and helpful.
